Worshipful Master is the title given to a Master Mason who has been voted by his brethren to lead them. It is an honor and a privilege to serve my Lodge and my brothers as Master for the 2012 – 13 Masonic year. Their trust and support mean the world to me. I will perform in this position to the best of my abilities and look forward to a great Masonic year.
For those visitors who may question what the title means let me clearly state that it is not a position in which brothers worship the Master as if he was a deity. I can put you at ease by clarifying what ‘Worshipful’ means. The word or title ‘Worshipful’ is one of respect in the modern language. In today’s idiom we’d use “Respectful Teacher” as the job of a Master is that of “teaching or guiding”.
Seven years in the craft, I consider myself a seeker of light and compare myself with those of you whom, like myself, began looking for truth in the light. Freemasonry has, from time immemorial, carried the light of knowledge forth. It is through diligent seeking that one begins to understand its meaning. All its secrets are open and ready to be allowed into your world, but you must first be prepared to understand what that light in knowledge means. Its ancient traditions and rituals are part of its process. I want you to join us in our labor of planting the seed of brotherly love in your heart.
Love is the glue that makes everything possible. With love, I extend an invitation to you to join us and answer your curiosity about Freemasonry. Our doors are open to any men, of at least twenty-one years of age, who believe in the existence of an ever living Creator and the immortality of the soul.
Freemasons come from all walks of life who share a goal of making good men better. We have an insatiable thirst for growth and personal improvement and we succeed in our own personal growth by sharing and learning from those who have already done it, who attend our Lodge to learn and share their light.
You may have seen us in the community during parades, festivals, fairs and functions. We help, aid and assist in achieving a higher standard of living with peace and security.
Thank you for your time and remember, to be one you must ask one.
Sincerely & Fraternally,
W. David E. Pierri
